The residents of St. Petersburg are proud that they will host the G8 summit in 2006, the city’s governor, Valentina Matviyenko, said. The choice of the city to host the summit of the world’s most industrialized nations will increase the city’s authority and promote the development of its infrastructure.
Ms. Matviyenko said the city’s previous experience of hosting major international meetings would help ensure proper security standards and avoid any inconvenience for the public.
