Iran's nuclear problem to be the focus of Russia's G8 agenda

MUNICH, February 5. During Russia's presidency in the Group of Eight and the Council of Europe, the priority will be to solve Iran's nuclear problem, said Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister.

"It will be our main concern unless we want an escalation of a nuclear crisis," he said at the Conference on Security Policy in Munich.

He expressed his approval of Russia's proposal to enrich Iran's uranium on Russian territory under international supervision. "It is a very important proposal that has been endorsed by Germany, the European Union, and the United States," he said.

Now everything will depend on Iran, Steinmeier said, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic had to comply with the IAEA demands.
