Moscow, February 10. Russian and foreign scientists urge G8 leaders to follow developments in hydrogen technologies for energy production. They expressed this idea in the draft appeal of the International Forum Hydrogen Technologies for Energy Production, which has ended its work in Moscow.
Scientists and representatives of industrial companies from Russia, the European Union, the U.S., Canada, India, to name but a few, have called upon the world leaders to “pay close attention to all hydrogen-related problems, and to maintain effective international cooperation in the hydrogen, industrial, ecological, cultural, and geopolitical spheres.”
The problems of energy carriers, and energy security featured prominently at the forum, which was held as part of the preparations for the G8 summit in St. Petersburg. “Given the current level of production, there will be enough coal for 400 years, oil for 42 years, and gas for 61 years,” said the speakers.
Scientists are convinced that the 21st century will see an epoch-making replacement of hydrocarbons with hydrogen. Deputy head of the Federal Agency for Science and Innovations (RosNauka) Alexander Klimenko said: “…mankind has approached a stage, where it will develop a concept of hydrogen economy, which is a step towards creating a hydrogen civilization in this century.”
Over 500 scientists and businessmen from 20 countries took part in the Forum.
