Proposals to reduce impact of power industry on environment to be prepared in Moscow for G8 summit - Rostekhnadzor

March 23

The heads of the state environmental and technological security services of the G8 countries will begin drafting proposals Thursday for the G8 summit to reduce the impact of the power industry on the environment, said Alexander Khamaza, director for international cooperation of the Russian Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision (Rostekhnadzor).

“Harmonized international measures should be elaborated in Moscow to reduce the negative impact of the power industry on the environment,” he said.

Delegates from European Union countries, the World Bank and the International Energy Agency will also attend the two-day meeting.

“The documents on licensing/permissive and supervisory/control measures, which are to be drafted at the meeting, will be forwarded to the G8 Sherpas,” Khamaza said.

During the conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Moscow in February, Rostekhnadzor head Konstantin Pulikovsky said proposals were being prepared for creating an international center for nuclear waste storage and processing in Moscow.
