G8 education ministers to discuss new technologies - US Secretary of Education

G8 education ministers will "discuss improving the quality of education and introducing new technologies" in Moscow June 1-2, said US Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings. She said the consultations in Moscow are designed to prepare discussions included on the agenda of the G8 summit to be held in St. Petersburg July 15-17.

"We are closely cooperating with our Russian colleagues, sharing our knowledge and experience," Ms Spellings said. "We are cooperating in such spheres as mathematics, research and foreign language teaching."

Secretary Spellings said the recent meeting with her Russian counterpart Andrei Fursenko agreed that "education was the foundation of any sphere, be it economics, politics or social work." "We must ensure that everyone has access to education. We are establishing a close partnership with Russia here," Margaret Spellings said.
