Russia ready to provide capacities for international nuclear fuel center – Kiriyenko

September 12   Russia is in favor of establishing fair rules of the game on the uranium market, Sergei Kiriyenko, head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Power, said Tuesday as TVEL Corporation celebrated its tenth anniversary. "The world uranium market is becoming global, and Russia supports fair rules of the game on this market," he said.

Kiriyenko said that "establishing international centers for processing, storage and distribution of nuclear resources is becoming increasingly important." "We are ready to provide production capacities to set up such an international center in Russia, where all countries wishing to develop their nuclear energy industry under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) control can participate on equal terms," he said.

Kiriyenko said the development of nuclear energy industry in the world would not depend on political decisions. It will develop as its achievements find commercial application. "Nuclear energy developed in the past as a byproduct of military priorities. Today the situation is changing, and world nuclear energy industry is becoming increasingly commercialized," he said.
