G8 parliaments to adopt consistent anti-terrorist laws – Russian lawmaker

September 16

G8 parliamentary leaders have agreed to start adopting internationally consistent anti-terrorist laws, State Duma lawmaker Konstantin Kosachev told reporters after the G8 parliamentary meeting in St. Petersburg finished discussing the topic.

The meeting agreed that national parliaments should create a consistent legal basis for preventing terrorism and human trafficking.

"We agreed to share our legal acts and set up a common framework for making laws that, while taking into account national features, would be consistent with that framework," Kosachev said.

The parliamentary leaders concluded that nations are in need of tougher ways to respond to terrorism, he said. The speakers from Britain, France and Italy shared their recent experience in making laws that helped address the threat of terrorism, he added.

"I am convinced that laws adopted in the Russian Federation are in keeping with the spirit and letter of their counterparts adopted in other G8 nations," he said.
