IEA official worried by insufficient action to improve energy efficiencyLondon, September 18 - Claude Mandil, the Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, told RIA Novosti Monday that obligations to improve energy efficiency were not being implemented fast enough. Mandil is attending the Oil & Money international energy conference in London. He said the G8 leaders had adopted a very good declaration at their summit in St. Petersburg, adding that it embraced all the issues and clearly outlined the need to improve energy efficiency and use alternative technologies and renewable energy. The IEA head said the main task was to formalize these obligations in legislation, emphasizing that words should be translated into deeds. He said he was not a pessimist, but the speed of implementing the measures was too slow on a global scale. The 27th Oil & Money conference was organized by Energy Intelligence, an expert source of information on the international oil and gas business, and The International Herald Tribune. The forum is being attended by key players and leading experts in the international energy sector. One of its sessions traditionally discusses the role of Russia in the global energy business.
