Russia to forward anti-terror legislative package to G8 countries – Kosachev

Russia will soon forward a legislative package on efforts against terrorism and uncontrolled immigration to its G8 partners, Konstantin Kosachev, State Duma international affairs committee head, told the media Tuesday.

"Russia intends to send a related block of proposals to the other debaters [at the G8 Parliament Speakers' Meeting]," he said.

The G8 Parliament Speakers' Meeting in St. Petersburg on September 16 agreed on the exchange of legal acts against terrorism and uncontrolled immigration so as to eventually unify the eight countries' national legislations in that sphere.

"We will work to agree on coordinated legislative unification steps in these areas," the Russian parliamentarian said. He reminded that energy security and response to the latest threats and challenges were the themes that had dominated the parliamentary meeting agenda.

Kosachev said the latest meeting had been much more fruitful than its antecedents.

"The G8 parliamentary meetings have elaborated certain traditions. The latest summit developed on them, which came as Russia's contribution to the G8 parliamentary aspect during its presidency," he remarked while highlighting President Vladimir Putin's reception of the parliamentary meeting participants. No head of another G8 president state had met parliamentary delegates before, Kosachev said.
