Russia to submit counterterrorism laws to G8 partners for standardization

September 19

Russia will soon forward its G8 partners a package of laws on counterterrorism and uncontrolled immigration, an official of the Russian parliament told journalists on Tuesday.

"Russia intends soon to forward a package of relevant laws to the other participants in the discussion [at the meeting of G8 parliamentary speakers]," said Konstantin Kosachev, head of the lower house's Committee on International Affairs.

During their September 16 meeting in St. Petersburg, the speakers decided to share their laws on counterterrorism and uncontrolled immigration with the goal of standardizing them.

"We will discuss coordinated steps to standardize relevant laws," Kosachev said.

He said the main issues at the parliamentary meeting in St. Petersburg were the fight against new challenges and threats and energy security. He said the meeting had achieved more results than previous ones.

"The G8 parliamentary meetings have certain traditions," Kosachev said. "The [September 16] meeting largely expanded on them, becoming a tangible contribution of the Russian G8 presidency to parliamentary relations."

He said participants in the G8 parliamentary conference met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was the first time such a meeting had been held with the head of a state holding the rotating presidency of the G8.
