St. Petersburg decisions are not G8 monopoly; all nations are invited to join in implementing them — Sergei Lavrov

September 22

The Group of Eight does not have a monopoly on the decisions it made in St. Petersburg; rather, all states are invited to join in implementing them, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday in New York, speaking at the 61st session of the UN General Assembly.

He said “the Russian presidency of the Group has broadened the forum’s cooperative ties with other leading countries and international organizations.” “Throughout the year the G8’s dialogue partners have actively contributed to St. Petersburg summit documents on all key items of the agenda, including global energy security, education and the control of infectious diseases,” said Lavrov. “The G8 is forming a new type of partnership with Africa, whose needs are being included in the mainstream of world development in the era of globalization, and not seen as separate from the general trends.” “The St. Petersburg decisions are not the Group’s monopoly, but rather all nations are invited to join in implementing them,” the minister said.
