Consultation conference of international trade union and G8 national trade union center leaders

The leaders of international trade unions and G8 national trade union centers on the Global Unions are meeting in Moscow for a consultation conference, July 5-6, 2006. The participants will focus on determining trade union positions on issues within the agenda of Russia's G8 Presidency. They also intend to discuss compliance with essential employee and trade union rights, migration and international workforce mobility, transnational commerce and investment, etc. A trade union statement timed to the St. Petersburg G8 summit will sum up the conference, to be circulated as international trade union movement leaders meet with Russia's President Vladimir Putin, July 6. The upcoming forum will not be the only G8 trade union meeting scheduled for this year. A similar conference will be convened in October, preceding the G8 Labor and Employment Ministers' Meeting, to pass a trade union statement, which will be later offered to a ministerial consultative conference with trade union and employer organization spokesmen.
