INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE "GLOBAL THREATS - GLOBAL ACTIONS. PROMOTION OF THE G8 SUMMIT INITIATIVES TO COUNTER INFECTIOUS DISEASES" G8 countries have made struggle against infectious diseases a priority at the 2006 summit in St. Petersburg, and adopted a statement on a number of important measures against epidemics. In this context, the conference will discuss implementation of the commitments adopted at the summit, and ways of stepping up efforts to counter infectious diseases at global, regional, and national levels. In the framework of its presidency, Russia has suggested regular monitoring of the G8 steps in countering HIV/AIDS, TBC, and malaria. The conference will analyze opportunities for further vigorous action against infectious diseases, in particular, under Germany's G8 presidency in 2007. G8 experts, officials from international organizations and healthcare specialists from developing nations have been invited to take part in the conference. Minister of Healthcare and Social Development Mikhail Zurabov, Deputy Minister of Finance Sergey Storchak, and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Yakovenko, Gennady Onishchenko, head of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare, among others, will represent Russia.
